Biological Recovery of
Contaminated Waterbodies

Providing technology and financing in order to clean up polluted lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans. Implementing Turn-key solutions for all kinds of challenges related to contaminated surface waters.

The Problem

Surface waters, such as rivers, lakes, seas and oceans, are increasingly polluted. Plastics and microplastics have been the protagonists of the discussion, leaving biological contamination in the background. The United Nations defined this alarming phenomenon in the Millennium Goals (14.2) as one of the most serious threats affecting planet Earth. Not only for marine life, but for all living beings in the world. Without clean water, plants, animals, and humans will sicken and die from the effects of contaminated water sources.

Avoid the Tipping Point

Hypoxia/Deoxygenation is the reduction of the oxygen content of the oceans due to human activities. The red dots are hypoxic areas or “DEAD ZONES” that contain 0,002 gram of oxygen per liter. Marine life is no longer possible in these areas.

The cause

Who is responsible?

Responsibility for the polluted waterbodies falls on all of us. Governments, citizens, and corporations do not attain to best practices and deem restoration too difficult to achieve.

The excuse

The Tragedy of the Commons

Individuals tend to act selfishly, using limited resources shared by a group. In the end everyone ends up suffering as the honourable end up paying the same price as the sinners.

Who are we?

The Solution

Tethys is a movement that promotes a new revolutionary initiative to encourages investors and politicians to reverse the tipping point in which the Earth becomes a huge DEAD ZONE!

The Tethys Team will develop interesting business models encouraging worldwide investment in cleaning projects of surface waters.

Our areas of expertise

What do we do?

Turnkey Remediation Projects

Provide proven technical solutions for realizing biological water cleanup projects all over the world.

Business Models Ideation

Provide a lucrative business model for water clean-up projects that attracts financial institutions and investors.

Investment Management

Provide financing for the selected clean-up projects.

Team Up

Provide an experienced team of technical, operational and financial experts.

How does it work?

Financing the clean-up of a river, lake, ocean or other water body becomes an interesting investment with a lucrative return.

How will this happen?

Governments lack the necessary funding for water cleanup projects. And even if they have money, sometimes other crucial points are prioritised.

Neither banks, Private Equity or Impact Investors are financing cleanup projects because there is no viable technical and sustainable solution (yet), neither an economic return or incentive.

How to convince investors to finance a clean-up project?

Governments may not have money, but they will offer interesting investment opportunities to attract the investors.

Dead-end Policy

No integrated sustainable technical solutions are available for cleaning waterbodies and restoring their natural balance.

Eutrophication

Polluters remain distant to the problem unfulfilling CSR promises.

Overemphasis on Plastic

Biological pollution remains at the background as an invisible problem, which is not the case!

Detrimental Practices

Human beings are responsible for the current pollution of waterbodies and disturbing the natural balance.

Waste Streams

Industrial and urban pollution is discharging untreated waste into waterbodies causing devastation of flora and fauna.

UN Millennial GOALS

Contamination of surface water is a growing world-wide problem. The problem is defined in the UN millennial goals 14.2.

Despite strict policies, new laws and heavy sanctions, clean-up projects remain widely unpopular and unfunded. Governments lack or allocate public funds to other prioritised needs, citizens remain oblivious to the problem, and companies continue caring mostly for shareholder value. Tethys prioritises the remediation of biologically contaminated waterbodies and creates actionable plans that involve all stakeholders. Word says that cleaning the environment only costs money. Tethys proves the argument wrong by having direct political impact, positive long-term environmental effects and great economic return for every project performed.

Nobody is acting until its already too late. Waterbodies should be recognized and treated as a real body, such as a plant, animal or human body. If a body is treated poorly,  it will eventually die. Waterbodies succumb to deplorable conditions, failing to function properly in a healthy manner. This is what is happening at this present moment.
